and in this Topic, we will take about ( Split Dam Isolation ).

So what are the most indication situations, which required to use of Split Dam?

𝘾𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙨 II 𝙙𝙚𝙚𝙥 𝙢𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙞𝙣 𝙥𝙧𝙤𝙭𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 .

𝙄𝙣𝙨𝙪𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤𝙤𝙩𝙝 𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙡𝙖𝙢𝙥 .

𝘾𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙤𝙛 𝙢𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙞𝙥𝙡𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙤𝙧 𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙧𝙨

𝘿𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙍𝙚𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙗𝙪𝙞𝙡𝙙 𝙪𝙥 𝙩𝙤 𝙥𝙪𝙨𝙝 𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙮 𝙩𝙤𝙣𝙜𝙪𝙚 , 𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙨 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙚𝙠𝙨 ...( 𝙁𝙤𝙧 𝙗𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙫𝙞𝙨𝙞𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙮 )

Etc………..

But …. What’s 𝑺𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒕 𝑫𝒂𝒎 𝑰𝒔𝒐𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 and How to do it.

𝑺𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒕 𝑫𝒂𝒎 𝑰𝒔𝒐𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏:- two holes are punched in places of end selected teeth, then cut the dam sheet to join these 2 holes together. And for more retention and stability, you can place a Clamp-on on one or two adjacent teeth...

Or by punching 3 holes close to each other to make a bigger hole which fit to include 2 or more tooth ......

but Split Dam has Some problems that most Dentist faces…

So let's talk about problems that you will face during 𝑺𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒕 𝑫𝒂𝒎 𝑰𝒔𝒐𝒍𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 ... and How to Solve it

Problem No.1

𝟏) Leakage of Isolation

Compared to Single or multiple isolation techniques, Split Dam is not the Perfect technique to use, if you looking for Perfect isolation ….

Because the open hole in the Sheet allows to Pass Saliva and solution through the dam sheet.

But, it can Solve using:-

1) Liquid Dam

2) Gingival protector ( Which is Supplied with any bleach kit .. )

3) Temporary filling material like Cavit ( 3M)

4) caulking agent

5) huge Cotton

To Close this open area and prevent any Leakage.

And in my opinion, Liquid Dam is the most Suitable -solution, Because:-

Cheap

Easy to use & injectables Material

Light Cure and can control it

Available in Dental stores

For Example

Problem No.2

𝟐) Easy to rip...

During Replacement of Rubber Dam sheet, with extra pressure or Pull force. it can be ending with ripping a useless rubber sheet because the split point is a weak point for resistance to tearing or Ripping.

And to Solve it, we can use:-

1- high tear tolerance Rubber sheet

2- Medium or Heavy

And the best example of that “𝗦𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝗺 𝘀𝗵𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀”

(36 sheet 6X6 for 150 egp Pound or 8 $ )

You can buy it from Egypt at this Link Blow

3- Make a perfect circle hole with Sharp Puncher ...

Proper punching includes proper alignment of the

punch table with the pin, alignment of the pin with the

hole mark on the dam, and punching; then, pulling the

dam up over the point of the punch.

An improperly cut hole will result in a nick or tag that

may cause the dam to rip while it is being placed

(consistent nicks or tags may be indicative of a dull

punch).

And the main reason for that is “ 𝑻𝒊𝒑 𝒐𝒇 𝒑𝒖𝒏𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒃𝒆𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒔 𝒅𝒖𝒍𝒍 ...”

Alternative for this technique

QuadraClamp which place and rubber dam secured anteriorly

 Or

Autoclavable Mouth opener and cheek retractor
